Transport of Tomorrow: Progress through integration
iMOVE’s Transport of Tomorrow is an annual forum for the improvement of Australia’s people and freight transport systems. It brings together people and organisations to generate new ideas and initiatives.
There is increasing recognition that the best transport systems are created through integration. This includes integration of data, systems and technology, and of the thinking of the people that make it all happen. This year’s theme is therefore Progress through Integration, an idea that will be woven throughout the program.
In 2020 Transport of Tomorrow will examine how Australia is doing with its initiatives in key transport areas, and how we will move forward. This includes a mix of industrial, academic and government perspectives, new findings from completed iMOVE projects, and international commentary.
There will be ‘pitch’ sessions to encourage new or hidden ideas to come to the fore, and learnings and ideas from those with ‘skin in the game’ about how to go about successfully working together.
The core themes are:
- Getting to the next level in connectivity and automation
- Getting to the next level in MaaS
- Understanding, managing, and influencing transit demand
- Emerging issues and trends in transport and mobility
New this year: A freight stream
Feedback we received from last year’s inaugural Transport of Tomorrow was that one of iMOVE’s three core areas of research, freight, was not featured. We listened, and for 2020 we have acted! Across both days we have added a succession of freight-specific session, and have attracted some influential speakers and panellists, including:
- Georgia O’Cianain: Project Director, National Freight Data Hub
- David McNeil: Customer Service & Fulfilment Manager, Liberty OneSteel
- Clare Gardiner-Barnes: Head of Strategy, Planning and Innovation, Infrastructure NSW
- Kirk Coningham OAM: CEO, Australian Logistics Council
View the full list of speakers and panellists for both the Freight and ITS/Mobility streams on the conference Program page, and for more information about all of the sessions visit the Session Information page.

Testimonials from Transport of Tomorrow 2019
The workshops were great … something very different and really promoted interaction with other attendees. Very well executed.
Great mixture of content and workshops. Provided something a bit different and great networking.
It was a great opportunity for learning about the intelligent mobility landscape in Australia.
Content was very engaging – a great blend between academic and practitioner perspectives.
I really enjoyed both workshops I attended … very nicely structured, with enough input from the moderators to guide the conversation, but not too much input to the point where the ‘workshop’ aspect gets lost.
